Last year we had the boys party in August because they didn't really have the concept of birthdays and they couldn't communicate enough for us to work out who they wanted to come. It was a sunny day and Lara's friends came round for a play and it was a lovely afternoon. Even if it was 2 months early.
This year was a whole different ball game. We had months of asking about it and grandparents prepping them so they knew they would be five. With a little help from Lara we were able to compile a list of their friends and they were all invited to our mobile zoo party at the house. In total we had 11 children and Kimmy came with her array of animals including a snake, a hedgehog called squidge who pooed all the time, a tarantula and meerkats. It was a huge success and the cakes went down great which was good , as all they wanted for their birthday was cake.
The day after , hungover and thinking about it I worried that I had ruined the day as in the hour before it started I got increasingly stressed and anxious about how it would go and started to shout at everyone. Toby came to find me mid rant and said,' Its my birthday and you have to be happy on my birthday so stop shouting and be happy.' Earlier Craig had had a similar episode and threatened to cancel the whole thing. Poor James said,' Daddy cant cancel my birthday cause then I will always be four.'
Would they remember our ranting and madness or their birthday party with the animals and the cake and the lunchboxes and the screaming kids.
Worry that I am going to damage them. They said it was all great and they loved it all but what will they say when they are 18. Or will they remember nothing at all?
